Literacy Circles

We are incorporating Literacy Circles into our reading programme in Rimu Learning Hub.  To start off with, our class are working on the same texts so that we get used to the different roles and are able to have a turn at each one.

There are 4 roles - Director, Sketch Artist, Quiz Master and Interpreter.

The Director introduces the book and the author and organises the order of people speaking to the group.  They introduce each person and their role and thank them for their contribution at the end.

The Sketch Artist draws a part of the book that they feel is an important part of the story.  This can include labels, diagrams and captions.

The Quiz Master writes down five questions from the book that need to be answered by the rest of the group at the end.  They write in the answers for each one as the group answer them.

The Interpreter chooses 2 tricky words from the story and writes down what they think the words mean.  They ask the group what they think the words mean and they then check with a dictionary.

Here are some photos of Literacy Circles in action!
