We are year 4, 5 and 6 learners in Rimu Learning Hub at Ormond School in Turanganui-a-Kiwa/Gisborne, New Zealand.
Our teachers are Mrs Parsons and Mrs Thompson.
This week, our STEM Challenge using the Learn, Create, Share model, was to create a Catapult. This ties in with our Discover the Past theme, especially as this week we are looking at inventors and inventions. We tried 2 different types of catapults, but found the smaller, simpler one worked better. Next we want to try and make a big catapult and see how far it goes!
Our theme for this term is 'Discover the Past'. For the first 2 weeks we are Discovering Extinct Animals. We got into pairs with someone that we hadn't worked with before. We found out about the Haast's Eagle, a bird that lived in New Zealand but became extinct about 500 years ago. We worked together to gather information about the Haast's Eagle and present it on a Google Slide. Next week, we will be able to choose our own Extinct Animal to find out about.
Here is Libby and Theo's Google Slide about the Haast's Eagle...
Here is Huia's work from our inquiry "Discover our World" Huia said... Today I found it hard to find the places. It was easy to follow the clues. We needed the clues. I really enjoyed playing the game. I am looking forward to playing this game again.
